Bigger doesnβt equal better!
When space and budget is limited, and the location doesnβt allow for heavy elements or concrete foundations, you have to get a little creative with the design solutions...
This little thing, approximately 8.5m x 7.5m inside curb and 2.3m at highest point, is installed on the roof of a parking garage, where we were not allowed to dig into the ground or place heavy wall elements on top. Instead we decided to create a light rail structure surrounded by a low curb.
The rail structure is mounted on a flat custom steel frame, which is heavy enough that, when covered with cast rubber surfacing, will never move.
Adding the slightly raised curb allows for plenty of movement opportunities across the whole setup in any direction - in both recognisable and awkward positions.
